“Enjoy yourself as much as you can, have as many diversions as you can, and remember that what people demand in art nowadays is something very much alive, with strong colour and great intensity,” Vincent Van Gogh (Dutch, 1853–1890) once wrote. Each artwork reproduced in this calendar is paired with either Van Gogh’s own observation of the work shown or an apt quotation from the time of its painting. Works include a portrait of the doctor who treated him in his last months, a pointillist view of the Seine, and landscapes in his beloved southern France.
