A founder of the pattern and decoration movement, Robert Rahway Zakanitch began exhibiting in New York City in the 1960s. Recently, Zakanitch has created several series of massive gouache works at a scale that’s rarely seen with the medium, some up to eight feet high. The lush cascading drapery of flowers in these paintings reflects the artist’s reverence for the beauty of the natural universe. This calendar features twelve colorful Zakanitch paintings—eight as part of the Hanging Gardens Series plus four additional works.
