While in New York for an exhibition of his watercolors of European opera houses, Andras Kaldor (Hungarian, b. 1938) was encouraged to paint the icons of the New York skyline, a commission he enthusiastically accepted. Trained as an architect in his native Hungary, Kaldor set out to capture the city’s historic landmarks and beloved public spaces, its churches, corporate headquarters, and museums, along with residences of the rich and famous.
