Greg Malouf
Described as ‘the point of difference’ in Australian food, Greg Malouf has inspired a generation of young chefs and transformed the Melbourne restaurant scene with his passion for the flavours of North Africa and the Middle East.
Greg Malouf was born in Melbourne, Australia of Lebanese parents. After serving his formal apprenticeship in several of Melbourne’s best restaurants, he continued his training in France, Italy and Hong Kong. Drawing on his cultural heritage and European training, Greg has forged a unique style of cooking which combines Middle Eastern tradition with contemporary flair.
In 1991 Greg set up O’Connell’s restaurant in one of Melbourne’s best known hotels. Under his direction the restaurant won numerous industry awards, while Greg himself earned the respect and admiration of his peers and national and international recognition for his innovative food. Greg is in constant demand around Australia and abroad for chef-masterclasses, media interviews and guest-chef appearances in leading hotels of the world. Greg is now Head Chef at Melbourne’s MoMo restaurant.
With co-author Lucy Malouf, Greg has co-authored several food books, many of which have won awards. Each has been widely-acclaimed and praised for showcasing the traditional ingredients and dishes of the region while also offering a window on Greg’s unique modern Middle Eastern cuisine.
